[So he told Zelos that if he did anything stupid, well, he'd be the first to know. Unfortunately that was before he found himself in a lake, breathing like a goddamn fish and promptly freaked out and called Korra.
So when Zelos gets his video message it's Ryan sitting on the ground outside soaking wet, hair plastered to his forehead and mollified expression on his face. But it's quick to turn into a grin.]
Hey. [Well, that's a start.] Um…you're not busy, are you? I kinda need to tell you something.
[He hadn't heard from Ryan in awhile - well over a week. While it was a bit odd, he didn't give it too much thought or concern. Ryan was a teenager and not one he was closely connected to. Therefore, it was pretty safe to assume the teenager wouldn't want to spend all his time around a grown man. So when he gets this message, he raises an eyebrow - ]
Hey Ryan.
[He tries to think about what this is about, their discussions about powers not on the forefront of his mind. Why is the kid all wet? Did he get into a fight with Korra or some other water mage? He didn't look injured at least...]
[Truth be told, Ryan's pretty sure nobody noticed he had been strangely absent for that amount of time. He's not sure he wants to touch upon what that means and that's hardly the point here. Instead, he's just trying to dry off and the look he's giving Zelos is a little unreadable even if that grin's still there.]
So…remember how we sort of talked about responsibility? [And powers.] And how I said if something happened you'd be the first to know…? [He sort of just wiggles his fingers in a "tada!" sort of motion despite being incredibly vague.]
[Yeah, this is very vague, Ryan. But at least it gives him a couple ideas.]
Wait. Are you talking about the powers and responsibility talk, or is this some weird Earth-culture way of telling me you're gonna get laid so you need a check-up?
[…was your goal to embarrass him? Because there's a tiny flush following that and breaking through his otherwise calm demeanor.] No I'm not going to get laid! [Goddamnit Zelos. He's silent for a second before he just quirks his lips up into a smirk.]
The powers and responsibility talk. [A beat.] Wait why would you assume I'd come to you for that?
Not that it matters but that's probably not going to come for a really, really long time.
[But he's breezing past the topic, holding up the locket with one hand.] Watch this. [And it takes a bit of concentration and a few long moments, but soon enough the water on his skin collects into a small ball, about the size of a baseball and sort of just hovers in his hand. He also tosses it in the air like a baseball, catching it once perfectly, but the second time the water shatters and splashes on his hands.
Pretty sure any pastor would just call me sacrilegious. [It's mumbled under his breath paired with a roll of his eyes, but it's quiet enough that it, more than likely, was just spoken without him thinking about it.
Instead though his expression quickly shifts into practically beaming because that sounds like a compliment and he likes compliments.]
Thanks. [Of course, there's also a bit of arrogance with that.] What did I tell you? I think I'm the exception. I'm not missing any limbs and there isn't acid flowing through my veins or anything.
[He heard that mutter, it's hard not to with hearing like his. It's curious- since he's not sure why Ryan would think something like that. But he knows better than to draw attention to his own ability, so he doesn't call him on the words] Hm?
[Whether or not Ryan would choose to speak about it, that's his own choice. Right now, what Ryan said at a normal volume took a bit of a higher priority]
[Which is...........Ryan is either more naive than he thought, or really an idiot. He's not sure which. BUT- he'll keep his calm smile.]
You really think so, huh? [He doesn't, but no need to rain on Ryan's parade] Well, it's good to know you're okay.
Huh? […oh. Right. People pay attention to him now. Even though senior year had been better, he's pretty used to being able to make comments and facial expressions without people noticing. Not so much here, it seems.] Nothing.
[But he's still proud of himself, literally like a puppy who's just learned a new trick.] Of course I do. It doesn't look like there're any side effects, right? [His grin shifts into something a little sheepish though.] I'm okay now…but…I sort of called Korra first while I was in the lake. And anyway I'm still trying to figure out what happened before that.
[He shakes his head.] I mean I sort of do...I woke up down there, I think one of the fairies spoke to me and gave me my powers and then I fell asleep and rolled into the lake.
How I got there, I don't know. [It's still fuzzy.] But I was down there at least a week. [Basically the story is that Ryan being a curious stupid child started wandering, started getting tired, found himself at the lake in the ruins, passed out in a corner where nobody would notice him, woke up when the fairy offered him his powers, fell asleep again for a short time and then when he tried to get up he ended up plunging deep into the lake.]
Trust me. I definitely woke up as soon as I realized I was sinking.
Zelos I can breathe underwater. [And now comes the part where he's freaking out a tiny bit.] I don't even know how I asked for that to happen, but it did.
You know, I thought of that. I thought that maybe that might have been it. But...no, don't think so. Remember that performing arts school I told you about? [Fill in the blanks. Go on.]
I got in. [If the anime sweatdrop was nearly visible on Zelos, let's talk about the sparkles that're practically appearing all around Ryan suddenly.] That's how I know I went back.
Thanks. [He's pretty damn proud of himself, but after being in New York and at school for a few months now he's a little more gracious about it. But it's exactly why he's bringing it up now.
He hasn't heard of anything like this before either.]
Actually? Kelsi and I both got in...the Juilliard representatives made an exception because they couldn't pick which one of us should receive the scholarship. So...it was weird. I was here and then suddenly I lived out at least five months back there. I didn't think that was possible and now the water powers and I'm sort of wondering why.
[And you know about magic and artes, bro. So. He's not expecting an answer but since Zelos is here it's nice to just bounce the thoughts off of for the time being.]
Hey, that's great! You won't be alone! How's your sister feel about all this?
[And yeah. That's a good question of why - since he hadn't heard anything about people being able to go home. In fact, it was the exact opposite. So he strokes his chin a little as he thinks]

Hey Ryan.

Nah, I'm not busy. What's up?

Okay he kinda is]But nevermind that- so I take it this means you requested some power?

Yeah, he's still learning. So sue him.]
What was that you said about responsibility?
1/2
Heh, I remember telling my pastor something like that too.
[And that it was a pile of lies]

Huh. Impressive.
[Especially for a beginner!]
And I think it was more something about powers coming with a price?

Well, guess you should be glad you got water powers instead of something else! 'Cause that could've been ugly.
