Do you think you could keep an eye on Cheria and make sure she gets to the base okay? Sophie, too.

I don't want to take any chances with either of them getting stuck here after the last shuttle leaves.

I...guess I'd be lying if I said the idea hadn't crossed my mind. We still have some time left, and I'd like to use that time to make preparations and to do what I can. But, no, I'm not staying. There's someone else I have to protect, and I can't do that if I remain in Exsilium.

Besides, Sophie'd kill me if I left her "babies" behind, so between them and my gear, my hands are going to be kind of full...

[The answering syllable isn't quite a laugh. It's too sad for that. After a beat he manages to pull himself together.]

[The offer sounds so fragile after the powerlessness of the past few weeks, Asbel doesn't have the heart to finish.]

[He picks up on that frailness, the weakness. It...hurts to hear, honestly. One thing that had always endeared him slightly to Asbel was...how much he reminded him of Lloyd. The guy who never gave up, who kept trying no matter how many problems were stacked up against them...even if things ended badly for Zelos, he still believed in Lloyd.]

[But if this guy, who was so much like him, sounded this close to breaking, to giving up- what did that...]

[It sounds like a heartfelt apology, even though it probably doesn't make a lot of sense. Even he knows it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. But he's always caused problems, always been the source of trouble. It...was easier to think that way]

I've always attracted trouble for the people around me. So...maybe this...this whole thing, is something I did.

[Okay, that's got his attention. It's honestly one of the things he least expected to hear from Kaneis, in this particular manner, and he's not even sure what he's trying to apologize for.]

Kaneis, you've done nothing but help us. You've been looking after Sophie practically since she got here, and I know you've done plenty for others. For Emil, and Cheria, and Allen, and the people at the clinic. [He could maybe list more if his mun actually stalked enough of your threads.] You even took the time to explain things to me when you had no reason to bother.

I don't know what occurred in the past, but you're not the cause of this. You shouldn't be blaming yourself for what's happening.

[For just existing, really. Sure, he knows somewhere that it's crazy and illogical to feel like he's the one to blame- but it was the easiest answer. He was a failed Chosen that should have never been born, should have never been resurrected and all he seem to do was cause problems or attract misery for everyone. His parents, Seles, Sheena, his roommates...no matter how many people he seems to "help", things just seem to get worse and worse]

[He wants to argue with Asbel, make him see that yeah- he's nothing good to be around. But...he's too cowardly for a fight. Not ready to face any demons (he never is). And so he gives a small, tiny weak laugh]

Sorry, maybe all the stress of this is starting to get to me. Make me think weird things, you know? So...don't worry about it.

[Asbel does know. But he also knows that those "weird things" he starts thinking whenever he himself has been pushed to the limit are usually his deepest and darkest concerns. Even if some of them are illogical, unlikely, even stupid, it doesn't make them any less true. If Kaneis is saying stuff like this now...it's probably something that's been at the back of his mind for a while.]

It's not a matter of being right. I'm honestly glad you're around.

[Yes, even when Kaneis succeeds at being obnoxious.]

...And you're definitely not the only one who's feeling a little crazy right now. Hang in there, okay? I don't know what'll happen moving forward... But we'll find some way to fix this. We have to.
