Like this? You can, it's cooked right now - it'd just be pretty bland and cold.

Oh. [ She cants her head. ] Does it shrink when you cook it?

[wilder]

Nah, it actually grows. [He'll reach up into a cabinet and pull down a bag of uncooked rice, holding it open for her to see] See?

[wolfchild]

Oh, it's like grain.

[ She looks up at him. ] Do you eat it a lot where you're from?

[wilder]

Yeah, sorta.

[he nods] It's in a lot of recipes, and pretty cheap too.

[wolfchild]

[ She props her elbows on the counter. ]

What do I chop?

[wilder]

[He'll put the onions and carrots on a cutting board]

Those.

[wolfchild]

[ She's quiet as she works to concentrate. Umma had preferred to talk about what she was doing and the girl had listened. The carrots are done first, then the onions. Her eyes water, but she only blinks back the tears and finishes quickly. ]

[wilder]

[While she was doing that, he worked on cooking up the eggs. It's pretty easy for him now, being able to break eggs into a pan without it getting shell bits. He remember the first few times when he would fumble and half the shell would fall in. Yeesh.]

[But he'll glance over when she says she's done, kinda confused why she is blinking and her eyes are watery (because hey, guess who doesn't know what onions can do to a person) ]

...You okay?

It's just the onions.

[wilder]

...Are you allergic to them or have bad associations with them?

[wolfchild]

[wilder]

Well you look like you're gonna cry over them-

I mean, I'm not judging. I knew people that got upset over weird stuff than that...

[Were her friends murdered by onions???]

[wolfchild]

[ She looks at him incredulously. ]

I'm not crying. Onions make everyone's eyes water. Haven't you ever chopped one before?

[wilder]

Of course I have. I use them all the time.

...They seriously make people's eyes water?

[...Whoops.]

[wolfchild]

[ She laughs. ] You're weird.

[ After rubbing at her eye with the back of her hand, she waits attentively. ] What do I do now?

[wilder]

Heh heh, guess so.

[Uh...] Mind cutting up the meat? About the same size pieces as the vegetables.

[wolfchild]

[ She steals one of the smaller pieces of carrot for herself before cutting the meat. ]

[wilder]

[He won't notice that, or particularly care. He'll focus on finishing scrambling those eggs. When they are done, he scoops them out into a side dish for later]

How's the meat?

[wolfchild]

Almost… Done!

[ All finished. And no tears. ]

[wilder]

[He'll walk over and look at it]

[ She leaves him to it. After washing her hands again, she hovers nearby. ]
