i have some things that belong to zelos

[a long pause]

How about my room? I'm in 103 in the North Wing.

[ she sends a brief message to let him know she's on her way. for once, she leaves all her weapons behind: the knives, the gun, the sword she had been gifted, needle. she brings with her only a sword too large and too heavy for her hand and two letters. nymeria remains behind with grey wind and robb; a much smaller creature gambols around her feet.

before, she would have barged in heedless of whatever zelos may be doing. she knocks on the door. ]

Kaneis, it's me!

[ she fixes her grip on the sword. curry sniffs the bottom edge of the door. ]

[He meanwhile was sitting in his room on his bed, wondering what this delivery could be. It's a bit ominous isn't it? How did she know about his name? Was it Richter? No...he gets the feeling the guy wouldn't do such an underhand right away. ]

[It seems both too long and too fast before there's a knock on the door. He rises to go open it. He doesn't recognize the animal, but the sword is enough to startle him]

Huh?! That's Soul Eater!

[THE HELL??]

[ curry had jumped back in surprise. the moment she realizes who the other is, she races to him, yipping in delight. rearing up on her back legs, she paws at zelos' pants.

arya smiles a little at the sight though it disappears when she has to face zelos again. she holds the sword up to her chest, blade pointing down. ]

Can I come in? It's heavy.

[He spares a glance for Curry, a confused one since wow. This animal was happy to see him. That...is not normal at all for him. Even Timcanpy the only time he came close to him was to slap him awake. ]

[But his eyes will quickly go back to Cat. He reaches over to take that sword]

Yeah, come in. What are you doing with that sword? It's supposed to be cursed, you know.

You left it to me.

[ with the sword gone, she fumbles for something to do with her hands. she clutches at her tunic before abruptly letting go. it's only zelos, he doesn't remember, he died. he cannot keep his promises here anymore than he could have in paradisa. she only came to return his things to him and leave.

why is she nervous?

curry continues to try to catch zelos' attention. her tails whisk through the air and she winds between his feet, rubbing her head against his shin with a happy sound. arya is jealous of the animal. ]

It's not cursed now. At least you said it wasn't.

I...did?

[Nothing was adding up. Sure, he had people remember who he really was from other places, but Cat wasn't one of them. She never knew him. She was Allen's friend that was a kid. That's all.]

[He glances down at the animal again. This thing was beyond happy to see him, and he didn't get why- and wait. Did it have six tails? What in the world...]

When you left.

[ she keeps her eyes down as she withdraws the letter from inside her tunic. her necklace slides out as well, a simple leather cord with a small silver wolf figurine lying atop a long gold feather. ]

Curry was in my care too. You said I should give this to you if I ever found you again and you did not remember me. [ she holds out the letter with its seal unbroken. ] That's for you.

When I left? Left where?

[HE HASN'T GONE ANYWHERE. And he sure didn't have that sword with him when he came here! Lloyd still had it, he remembered that]

[But that feather gives him pause again. Because really, there aren't too many things that give off glowing golden feathers, that's for sure.]

[He takes the letter, and stares at it. That was definitely his family's crest, stamped into the wax. He hasn't seen it since he died, it almost feels like seeing a ghost from home]

[When he opens the letter, it's from the side, as if he's trying hard to not break that seal. It takes longer, but eventually the letter gets pulled out and he starts to read it.]

Paradisa.

[ she stares down at her feet. curry remains by zelos and she has to swallow the urge to pick her up and hug curry to her chest. ]

We were— We were friends. I loved you. As much as I've ever loved anyone. I swore when you left never to love anyone like that again. It only makes everything hurt worse when they go.

[ she looks to the side, eyes still downcast. ] I didn't remember. I left and came back and I had these things with me to prove it all true.

You don't remember it, but...but I gave my word I'd return these to you. I'm sorry I'm only fulfilling my promise now.

[....]

[The letter lowers as he listens to those words. Loved him? He...wasn't worth that. He didn't see how anyone could feel that way about him.]

[Paradisa huh? That was his chance...clearly this was some sort of mistake. He recognized the name of that place, he had heard it before and knew at least a little about that Zelos]

...You don't have to apologize. That's...not me. That Zelos is a different one from me. I've heard about him before. He's from some..other timeline than I was in.

[he became a cherished friend and hero, Kaneis was a dead no one. ]

Sorry.

You're wrong. [ she's looking at him now. ] You're changed. You're still you.

I'm a lot changed. You're not the only one who died once upon a time. I use the name of a dead woman because I thought it fitting. My brother still says he loves me. I'll bet anything your sister would still love you. Curry missed you a lot. [ she smiles slightly at the vulpix. ] I still get happy when I think of you. Not you as you were. Just you. You made me happiest just calling my name.

[ when she blinks, she realizes she's crying. she laughs and wipes a cheek. ]

I'm being a silly little girl. I guess I'm not really a woman. [ her laugh is quiet, and thick with unshed tears. ]

[...]

...You're not being silly.

I just...[Trying to think how to word it] Not so used to people talking about me that way. And when they do...it's usually for stuff I don't remember.

[ biting her lip, she comes close enough that she can touch his wrist. her thumb caresses a soft arc over his skin. ]

I told you you're my friend. [ here. before she ever remembered another life. ] I still think you my friend. Can I still be yours?

[A pause. He watches her touch his wrist, and even manages to stop himself from pulling away]

[He's worried about this. Living up to a legacy he can't picture at all? He wants to tell the kid that she'll be let down in the end...]

[But in the end, he doesn't. For reasons of...well, he doesn't specifically know why]

...Yeah.

Yeah, you can be, little wolf.

[ a shy smile slowly blooms on her face. ]

Tell you what. I'll be your little wolf instead. I think I'd like that better.

[ she's distracted by a warm rub at her ankles. curry peers up at her. she bends down to pick her, holding curry much like she would a baby. she plants a firm kiss to the top of curry's head before shifting her hold so zelos can pet her. ]

Her name's Curry. She's a Pokemon. When she gets too hot, she coughs up fireballs.

My little wolf huh? ....I think I can do that.

[He watches her hold onto that pokemon. It...sorta looks like Corrine, but different at the same time. He's reaching out to pet it when he stops midair when he hears that last part.]

Coughs up fireballs?

[AND THE OTHER ZELOS LEFT HER WITH A LITTLE GIRL? REALLY?]

She used to breathe fire. I think. Now she only does it if she gets too hot. It's cold here so it wouldn't be a problem. But she can.

[ a little pause. ]

She's trained, though. She knows not to chew on your things and she knows to be quiet and follows commands. She's really good!

I'll...take your word for it.

[Fire breathing fox. Sure. Why not. He reaches out to pet Curry who gives out a happy "vul!"]

I've never had a pet before. I mean, Allen's sorta like one sometimes but I don't think that counts...

[ she snickers. ]

Curry can fend for herself. She's easy to look after. Keep her fed and watered and play with her a while. I could help. If you want. I can come by. I can tire her out, she'll sleep all night. She likes having someone near when she sleeps. [ really, she wants visitation.

she might have also done an excellent job of spoiling curry oops ]

[Yeah....he sees what you're hinting at there]

Don't worry, you can visit her whenever you'd like.

[ a little color climbs into her cheeks. she smiles sheepishly. ]

Here. [ she offers curry for him to take though not before giving her a tight squeeze. she cannot get the thought out of mind that they will both be gone now. ] I ought to get back.

[Oh, he's supposed to take Curry now huh? He'll reach out to take her, but it's clearly he barely had a clue what he's doing. Since hey, the only time he holds animals is when they are dead and for supper. ]

[ she fixes his hold on her first. the new and old thrill she feels touching him, she stubbornly ignores. rather than hug him, she rubs curry's head. ]

Be good, hear?

[ a little reluctantly, she heads for the door. ]
