[he listens to her, trying to imagine it. In some ways, it sounds like Meltokio's noble quarters, at least the parts of the gardens and court. Fortunately, it differs enough that the similarities don't risk hitting too close to home]

It sounds beautiful. Hard to imagine a King getting an entire forest to hunt through, though.

It does doesn't it? A lot of people they find the great vastness of Kings... hard to grasp. [ And she gestured over a hill of the false landscape. ] It was established by a King long before my father. He was a fearsome fighter and thought that hunting was a perfect hobby for a man such as himself. It kept him and his men lean and sharp. Stags are tricky to chase you see? You must be quick, and clever, and lucky. I enjoy it myself immensely.

[ Unfitting as it was for a woman, there was a thrill of having something to chase down, as a man would. To have blood on her hands and be vicious about her ability. As good as an prince, as any King. ]

Do you do such things where you come from?

Hmmm...I could see that. Sitting in a throne room all day when you're a fighter would drive anyone mad.

[Even if theirs...differs a lot from stag hunts. But he shakes his head ]

Heh, not really. The wilderness in my world is full of monsters, so it's a lot more dangerous than Earth's countryside. Nobles and knights will use them for training, of course but...our King isn't the sort to risk himself for sport.

[onemistress]

It would, so I am told. They end up lusting after war instead of deploring it. I cannot stand them, myself.

[ She laughed dryly. ] Yes that is why the King has his own forest. Though not from monsters, just to keep out the worst of men. [ She walked a little further ahead of him, into the false forest. Hearing the leaves crunch under her shoes and the rustling of her skirts on the ground. She held herself differently here. Her back straight, her shoulders stiff. ] Why does your King not partake in such things? Does he not like it?

[ Holding herself up to this man she would never meet -- it made her curious what sort of ruler he was. Mistakes she should learn from, in one way or another. ]

Heh, war or the fighter type?

[Party wondering still, what the point of this all and if she'll be attempting to kill him anytime soon. But he follows along, thinking. It's odd, he spent most of his life around the king- but always at arm's length. Always seen as a potential threat even when he was nothing more than a six year old who was expected to fill his father's shoes. It didn't harbor much closeness]

I don't know if he did or not, I wasn't close to him. But...right now, while Tethe'alla is prospering, it's a fragile state. There's only one heir, the queen passed away and the King himself had taken ill recently- but that turned out to be his bastard half-brother poisoning him for the throne.

[he shrugs] With that state of things, I can see him not wanting to take the risk of hunting on top of it all.

Both. Wars are... too uncertain. You can never be sure of their outcome, even with the best numbers, best canons, finest soldiers, and it is the fighter types that think that are unbeatable. I cannot abide it, them or that lack of control.

[ Not again. Her fingers scrunched up as if she still held the blood soaked clothe. Don't send boys to fight wars. She would never make that mistake again. ]

No I can see why -- [ She gave a short barked laughter despite the serious of the topic. ] That is wise of him... Country before pleasure, nay?

Heh...yeah. Wars never go as planned. I can see why a pragmatic ruler wouldn't want anything to do with them.

[His world's legends speak of a war that lasted a thousand years. He wonders...how many thought they'd be done with it within a year? That they'd be home by new years?]

I guess so. I don't envy him, though.
