This is a catch-all contact post for Zelos Wilder/Kaneis Major in warforged. Please put the style of contact (in-person, mail, scrying, messenger pigeons - whatever) and/or location in the subject line!
One thing! I tell you not to mention one thing to Vastania and you did. It isn't a matter of who brings it up it's a matter of being political savvy enough not to make a mess of everything.
[She's really considering pulling his ear again. She won't but it is so very tempting.]
No but if one of you would have been a damn adult and stopped sitting there arguing like a bunch of orcs we could have ended that whole talk sooner as opposed to later.
[She'll let go of his ear.]
Vastania is young and she was trained by people my age, people blinded by the Light and who would consider you an undead abomination. It doesn't make it right nor does it excuse her words. It's...complicated.
[The moment his ear is free, he immediately steps away from her and crosses his arms over his chest. His eyes are cold as he looks back at her. He was already upset from the talk in the circle, and this is not helping]
That's her problem, not mine. If she was more willing to try to change, I'd be more willing to give her a chance. But she made it clear she's not.
This may come as a surprise to you but young people have just as much a hard time changing as old people. Sometimes it takes a grand event for someone to change their mind.
[She'll sigh and run her hand over her face. She hates the day. Unlike him, she simply looks tired. She's starting to feel her age.]
Look. I'm not asking you to trust or understand the whole "Light is absolute" ideals that she's been clinging to. I'm asking that you give her time to adjust. She'll eventually realize she's wrong, at least in some part. It might involve more yelling at her but she will eventually realize that there isn't such a thing as absolutes.
This may come to a surprise to you, but I'm not a naive child. I know how hard it can be to change a person. But that's really not my problem. I'll keep existing whether she accepts I'm a person or not. There's not much she can do to me.
[At least, not without it ending badly for her.]
But she can have all the time she wants. You don't have to worry, I'll continue doing what I'm asked on missions, even if I'm with her. I got my own reasons to fight the Legion, after all.
Just don't expect me to be friendly with her. Or accept her as our leader.
There are plenty of people of all ages who assume change is far easier then it is. Age doesn't dictate if a person understands, experience does. When none of us seem to know all that much about each other it seems fair to be unsure.
[She pinches the bridge of her nose, gotta stay focused. Don't get too motherly about Vas.]
I'm asking for civility, at least. [a beat] I don't want her to try and seriously take up the leader mantle somewhere down the line. Maybe not as much as you but it's not something I wish to see.
[Zelos unfolds his arms to put on a hand on his hip.]
Valamia, I'm a mercenary. I got brought here to fight the Legion. And I got plenty of experience working with people I hate way more than Vas to know I won't let my dislike get in the way.
But I'm not being paid to coddle your kid. Or to be pleasant.
My kid? If she was my kid she wouldn't even be a paladin at her age. That's an entirely different conversation. [Not that Vastania wasn't like her daughter but well...sake of the conversation might as well be technical.]
Ever consider not bothering to hate people? Casual indifference goes a long way.
[He's immediately turning away and starting to leave. He knows that he's aggravated her. Sure, he doesn't speak a word of Eredan, but he knows a string of curses when he hears one. But he doesn't really care. He felt promising to remain professional during missions was a fair enough compromise]

[But she's much bigger than him, and he really likes his ear, so he abstains]
What? You mean the whole dead thing? I didn't bring the topic up- Mar did!

[Seriously?]
What, would you have preferred I had just stood quietly and let her go on about how she thinks I'm not a person?!

Sure, I do. I feel casual indifference for most of the Sworn. Vas has just done enough to pass into my dislike spectrum.

Great. [She doesn't know what to do. She's frustrated, tired and feeling very old. She vents to herself with a long string of Eredan curses.]
...I suppose there's nothing else I can say. Go do whatever it is you were going to do. Punch someone or something. I haven't a clue.

Seeya later, Valamia.
[And off he goes.]
