Abilities
"Just who the hell do you think I am? I am Zelos, the Chosen of Mana of the noble Mana Lineage!"
It should be noted first that like the rest of the characters, Zelos wears an Exsphere that enhances his normal abilities so he has superhuman strength and agility. In Tales of Symphonia, Zelos is sort of the jack of all trades in terms of abilities. He fights with a short sword (or dagger) and a shield, he can use elemental magic as well as healing magic. However like a true jack of all trades, he is a master of none. His magic is very limited compared to Raine and Genis and Lloyd and Presea seem able to output more force on the pure physical damage front as well. His real specialty is being able to combine his magic and swordsmen skills together, meaning he shoots fireballs at you while slicing you a new one or making his sword electrical.
Not only that, but due to his status as a Chosen he also has a Cruxis Crystal that grants him angelic abilities such as light-based spells and wings (his are gold!). But unlike Colette who relies on her angelic powers in battle and flies around the battlefield with her wings, Zelos is much more discreet about them (either due to his hatred for the position of Chosen or simply not being as powerful as Colette who went under the full angel transformation process) and ties them into his swordplay. The only time you see his wings are brief glimpses during battle and he never draws attention to anything that would make him appear as more than simply a magical swordsman.

Human Related Abilities![]()
Weapon Proficiencies:- Mastered: Short Swords, Daggers
- Decent: ...Baseball bat.
- He seems acrobatic enough to do flips and all that fun stuff.
- He's a trained fighter, since I guess they got nothing better to do with their Chosen in Tethe'alla. Anime shows him capable of taking on several guys at once (so long as they're extras).
- Fast reflexes!
Angel/Exsphere Related Abilities
These are abilities that require an Exsphere or Cruxis Crystal in order to work. So if you remove the shiny red crystal on his chest all these hax powers go awaaaay.Superior Strength:
- People who wear Exspheres have higher strength than the average human. Angels are capable of lifting a full grown man with a single hand and call it "light". He'll almost never show this strength.
- He's shown to be very fast to react to things and can move extremely fast as well. With his cruxis crystal, it certainly surpasses the human range of reflex and speed.
- Wearers of Exspheres have healing magic be more effective on them when it's used. Meaning characters with healing magic get to use less energy to heal him. Sweet deal.
Superior Senses:
- Vision: Can see extremely far away as well as small details that the regular human eye would overlook.
- Hearing: Can hear even the faintest sound quite clearly, to the point it can be pretty painful (thus his hatred for all modern tech). For example, in the manga Colette was able to pick out the sound of a small key dropping when a rubble of a house collapsed.
- Smell: (???) Debatable if this is a thing since canon is vague, but he'll whine about bad smells anyway.
- In Dawn of the New World, Angels are shown capable of seeing through a character's magic cloaking ability. Maybe this is because they can pick out sights and sounds humans can't, or simply they are prepared for a Klingon invasion - who knows.
- Cruxis Crystals wearers deviate from Exsphere wearers where they get a pair of magical fairy wings. Zelos's are a bright gold color. Unlike Colette, he uses them very sparingly...to the point where he seems to forget he has them...
- He's learning how to fly in Paradisa, but it's kinda a slow process since he...avoids it whenever possible. Whoops :x
- Cruxis Crystal wearers have powerful light-based attacks that they can use. HOWEVER, unlike other angels? Due to lack of proficiency and issueees, at this point in time his only seem to activate when he's under extreme emotional distress and his angel skills seem limited to using the power to blow up everything in the room. Yeah. He miiiight need more training here.
Magic Abilities![]()
Magic Spells:- Zelos has limited ability to summon and control these following elements in combat: Fire, Wind, Earth, Lightning and Light.
- Too many skills to list. But essentially he will frequently tie the different elements he can use into his sword attacks to enhance it's power.
- He's capable of casting spells that will heal wounds. He can't heal illnesses or poisons. Not only this, but it takes concentration for him to do this and people who specialize in healing do better jobs. But hey it's better than nothing.
Weaknesses![]()
Cruxis Crystal:- Currently he has a keycrest, so it's safe. However removing the keycrest or tampering with that or the Cruxis Crystal can cause these possible side effects: loss of appetite, loss of taste-buds, loss of functioning nervous system, loss of voice, freezed aging, suppressed emotions, loss of soul, loss of memories, loss of sentience thought, turning into a monster or death. Don't do it.
- Removing the Cruxis Crystal without tampering with the keycrest or removing both all together will take away most of his powers- and it'd even make his magic less powerful.
- In his world, humans aren't able to use magic. The reason he's able to is because at a young age, he was forced to ingest some substance called aionis that let humans use magic. Either way, his magic simply isn't as good as someone who can use it naturally.
- Not only that, but a lot of his magic takes concentration. He can cast mild spells pretty quickly, but the stronger ones take time. So if you see him casting a spell and you don't want him to? Bump into him or throw a rock, because he'll have to start all over again.
- You got a dog whistle? A laser pointer or flashlight? Congratulations. The pain you could inflict on Zelos Wilder or other Cruxis Crystal bearers is tremendous.
- Hearing: While it's helpful in a lot of ways, in a world full of modern tech and very loud people, it's practically a handicap since it's painful half the time. Seriously, think about that feedback noise that you sometimes get if you are too close to a speaker - now make it really loud. Yeah.
