Loss notes!
Situation: What if Zelos and Colette's lives were switched? Zelos grew up in Iselia and Colette grew up in Meltokio. What would be different for them?
History Notes
- First important note: to make the timeline make more sense, Zelos is being de-aged to about 18. Lets face it, half the CR didn't think he was 22 anyway.
- Born in Iselia with a Cruxis Crystal in hand, marking him as the next Chosen. He lived with his father Frank and grandmother. Mother is unmentioned and absent like a Disney parent. Relationship with his father and grandmother is very hands off and formal, since you know they don't want to get attached to a sacrificial sheep
- His early childhood was pretty lonely, combo from being busy with chosen studies on top of regular studies and people avoiding the chosen one because yeah, weirdness.
- Found out from a very young age that he was going to die at the end of the Journey. Didn't think too much of it because when you're super young lolol what is death.
- One day he was approached by a young Lloyd who felt his red hair was grounds enough for friendship because red is awesome. Zelos thought this was really weird and silly, but he was so happy to have a friend he gave no shits at Lloyd's weirdness. They became fast best friends and were pretty much inseparable, much to the grief of the church and the townspeople.
- A couple years later, Genis moved to Iselia and Lloyd decided to befriend him too. Zelos was happy to have a third friend even if Genis and him would bicker from time to time. Genis taught them the way of sarcasm and snark, it was great.
- Years passed and Zelos continued remaining close friends with Lloyd and Genis, but as he got closer and closer to the day he'd receive the Oracle, he began to fret more and more about the fact he wouldn't survive past the journey. Lloyd and Genis helped him live life to the fullest, but at the same time...a part of him was a bit sad that it wouldn't be forever. Not wanting to worry his friends or seem like a poor Chosen, he never expressed these fears or the fact he was going to die. Instead it would manifest in small ways- getting into more and more trouble so he could spend as much time as possible with Lloyd, suddenly slacking off in school since he didn't get the point and it made Genis happy to be top of the class- stuff like that.
- Received the oracle on his eighteenth birthday (why 18th? cause why the hell not). Things kinda remained as they did in canon from throughout the first act, with conversations altered slightly but not drastically so. Oh you know, totally crushed on Sheena when she wasn't trying to kill him.
-Then they went to Tethe'alla and met Colette and lalala I'll let Mimi fill this part in more yaaaay
Personality Notes
- Zelos is a lot more genuinely optimistic about the world, though not the same level that Colette is in canon. People can be seriously douchenozzles, sure, but that doesn't mean you should give up hope or let people get you down. Lloyd helped him a lot with that. He is not as gullible as his friend, but he likes to think that people generally WANT to do what's right, it's just circumstances don't always allow that. Unless they you know, just suck as human beings
- He does still feel easily guilty about stuff, but since he doesn't have to pretend to be an apathetic jerk? Apologies abound. Have fuuuun.
- The idea of people knowing who he is won't bother him, especially once he figures out this is a multi-world place. He probably just figures it's another Zelos! How strange! Then feel bad he doesn't remember the people who say they are his friends and try to get to know them and make it up to them. Because clearly this is somehow his fault.
- He loves making people laugh or happy. He has a bit of snarky humor thanks to Genis, but it has none of the edge his old humor has. It's more loving pokes of fun, and he still is pretty good about laughing at himself too- or doing something dorky in order to get people to smile or laugh.
- Stillll has a tendency to internalize his suffering or sadness. But this is mostly because he doesn't want to worry other people and it's the Chosen's job to make people happy- so why trouble them with his concerns?
- Curiosity will be at an all time high. Yet again he doesn't have to mask it with apathy, so it will be questions abound. Fortunately he's a smart guy, so the questions won't really be that stupid considering the context of his life, though on the flip side he's much less knowledgeable about his own world beyond what he learned in the Professor's class and saw on the Journey- Iselia simply doesn't have the resources Meltokio does. He'd love getting to know people and hearing about their stories. He won't be super keen on sharing his own, unless it's about stories of his friends.
- Like Colette, his childhood started off super lonely from being the Chosen but then Lloyd came into his life. As said before, Lloyd probably befriended him because hey, you have red hair and that's an AWESOME color for Lloyds. They would play together and eventually Genis joined them to complete the trio. He was probably a bit more of a rule breaker than Colette was- sneaking out to visit Lloyd and playing with swords, getting into trouble with pranks, etc. Because he was a bit more of a troublemaker, people probably didn't like him as much as the villagers like Colette- and were even harsher when he failed at the Journey (saying stuff like I knew you couldn't do it and what not)
- He really really loves his friends and the people in his life. He's a perceptive guy and wants to learn everything he can about a person so he can help them or do anything they need to be happy. They are the most important thing to him.
- Which sadly, makes him feel inadequate as a Chosen. He does love the world, he wants to help the world- but deep down inside? He was terrified of dying and never getting to see his friends again. He spent a lot of time wishing he wasn't the Chosen and just...a normal person who could spend his days in Iselia with Lloyd and Genis. But he feels very selfish for having those sorts of thoughts, and frequently tries to deny them since he knew the Journey of Regeneration was more important than what he wanted. The feelings of guilt and selfishness only increased when he "failed' his journey. In a lot of ways, he's DREADING going back to Iselia and dealing with everyone on a day to day basis...if it wasn't his home where Lloyd and Genis are, he'd want to run.
- And his own feelings of inadequacies made him still view Colette on a pedestal, especially as she pretends to be the perfect Chosen. He would feel very intimidated by her initially, like how the hell are you and I in the same category? That's crazy. After her betrayal at the Tower of Salvation, he's being slightly slow to forgive simply because...she shattered that image he had of her on epic proportions and that's taking some getting over.
- While he was probably a good student in Raine's class, he probably failed at Chosen studies. Way too much curiosity and asking questions about the scripture. He's better at his angel skills than regular Zelos because he didn't have magic so he had to learn how to use them to help out- but he's much more uneasy about them than Colette is.
- He still notices girls, but kinda living the convent life in Iselia, he knows next to nothing about dating and what not. Having a romantic relationship was definitely never in the equation. So you might catch him...staring at girls some or unintentionally flirting, but definitely not to the level of before sdljkfds.
- Overall he's a pretty laid back, curious and friendly guy. He goes with the flow and tries to stay on the cheerful side of thing. He loves his friends and is very happy that maybe he'll actually HAVE a future with them. He feels kinda inadequate as a Chosen but he still tries anyway because that's what he's supposed to do.
Relationships
- Lloyd: BEST FRIEND. Really honestly just change the fact to them being childhood friends, this relationship is not very different. Zelos thinks the world of Lloyd and is one of the most important people to him. This opinion has only grown since their journey together.
- Colette: When he first met Colette, he was pretty intimidated by her since she presents herself as the perfect Chosen. His own insecurity about being a Chosen, especially one that just failed his journey of regeneration, sorta made him idolize her some and look up to her. Well, until she betrayed them all and almost got him killed. Things are kinda awkwaaard now because not only did she betray them, he feels a good amount of disillusionment towards her.
- Raine: Professor Sage! Even if he started slacking off the last years before the Journey, he always enjoyed her classes and looked up to her intelligence. Mucho respect.
- Yuan: He's slightly wary since the guy did try to have him killed a bunch of times, but he understands he was just trying to look out for the greater good. So he's willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as long as Lloyd is.
- Martel: The woman that was made into a goddess. Zelos is still trying to figure out what his religious views should be now that he found out the entire story was a lie...but he still looks up to her a lot. She is also flipping intimidating ok.
