... what can he say or do for this? can he offer kaneis anything? he's not sure if he wants to tell him what happened. isn't he supposed to be pulling away from him right now, anyway? riku shouldn't be contacting him at all!

I'm just fine. I heard about it because Merrill wanted to know if I knew where Fenris went after it happened. Which I don't...something I'm pretty sure I'm relieved about.

Merrill? A friend of yours?

I...guess you could say that. Both of us were in Exsilium. Fenris was too, but I definitely wouldn't call him a friend.

Merril's fine. One of those sweet types that rambles and tries a bit too hard to see the good in everyone.

Both of them.
I don't agree with what either of them did, though.

[There's a pause. There's a part of Kaneis that wants to immediately disagree, but - he's nothing but a man that won't listen to both sides of the story. Especially when it's coming from Riku, someone who actually has earned some measure of trust from him and clearly doesn't agree with Robin's actions either.]

Why did Robin do it? The whole- owning a slave thing, I mean. I've only heard Fenris's side of the story.

Do you know who he was keeping?
I've met him once. He asked me how I knew the names of some of the food I was buying.
He didn't know how to cook at all. I said I'd teach him how to cook if he wanted, but he was just...
Really lost.
It was kind of like talking to a kid.
Robin said that Nel barely knew how to take care of himself. I wasn't ready to believe him at first, but I thought about what happened back then.
I looked into his heart, and all I felt was that he was telling the truth.
I don't think what he did was right, but maybe it was a hard decision he had to take, and... I understand that.
I won't know unless I talk to Nel.

So you're saying he took ownership of him in order to make sure he's taken care of? Like a pet?

I don't know whether to be pissed or in disbelief of his idiocy.

Maybe you should ask him yourself.
I don't really understand it. I read about it in history books, but that never really happened in my world.
I knew it was bad, and I knew what people did to people they enslaved. That was enough.

You're lucky. It was legal until recently in my world - at least for half-elves. It was technically illegal to make slaves out of the other races, but you'd still hear of it happening anyway.

Either way, it's bad. Best case scenario, Robin's a serious idiot for thinking that was the right way to go about things.
