[And there's a long pause on his end. It's a probably a good thing that this is over text, since it gives him a chance to have his impulse of snarling before relaxing and trying to think of a reasonable response. BUT FINALLY, there's a response]
...I'm fine.
Lloyd and I just have...a bit of a history, that's all. I wasn't really counting on seeing him again.
[ If he'd made her wait any longer for a response, she would have probably ventured out of the armory to physically check in on him and apologize for prying, so when he answers finally, she sits back into the chair and sighs a little with relief.
After a big delay like that, she's not so sure she believes he really is fine. ]
Good history or bad history? Do you need to be your lookout on way-stations before you go out?
[Jeez Cecil, why are you so nice. Kaneis...really isn't sure how to deal with this. It's not anything personal about Cecil, it's more...trust is hard for him to show. Too many years of being taught he was entirely on his own. And he wasn't really close enough to Cecil to really change that attitude.]
...You're a nice person, Captain.
Maybe one day I'll explain things, okay? That's...all I can give for right now.
[ Cecil smiles to herself when the smiling face pops up. She's not sure if it's the fact that they are not having this conversation face-to-face or if they are actually growing closer, like friends. Either way, she's glad Kaneis seems to slowly but surely be warming up to her and relaxing around her. Just that he seems more open to communicating with her now is encouraging. ]
I think I'm going to try to get an hour or so of sleep. Still not feeling too well.
[It's a bit of both, really. Text makes it easier for him to respond, but at the same time- he probably wouldn't have even responded at all if it had been a stranger trying this conversation]

I just noticed you seemed upset about something. I saw your reaction earlier. I know you haven't talked to him yet, so when you knew his name...
Anyway, are you all right?

[ She's only somewhat joking. ]

Uh- both? I don't know. It's hard to explain.
[Especially when really, he's not sure how much of his past he wants to reveal.]
You don't have to worry about him though. He's a good guy. History aside, he wouldn't try anything to anyone.

The complicated relationships always are.
But if you need someone to talk to about the matter, for one reason or another, you can talk to me.

Mostly I just need to figure out what to do. But, that's my own problem. It shouldn't affect the crew.
[At least, until Lloyd shows up]

Kaneis, you're not in this alone. You aren't a burden to me. I'm happy to help you with anything, whenever you'd like it.
I'm not concerned for myself-- I'm concerned for you.

Oh- right. You should do that.
Feel better, Captain.
